Chapter 5 | Giacomo Arengario - Eatery Overlooking Duomo di Milano

Give Me Food with a spectacular view of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Duomo di Milano

On the second day in Milan, my partner and I met Marianna and Andrea from the original Prada Boutique in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. After meeting there, we were treated to a visit to the Marchesi 1824 before lunch at Giacomo Arengario inside Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to accommodate my diet at the time - dairy and gluten free diet.

Giacomo Arengario was born in December 2010, sharing a building with the Museo del Novecento (Museum of the 20st Century) in the Piazza Duomo. As just one of the six unique sections of Giacomo Milano, Giacomo Arengario is an eatery built with all the avant-garde charm and unique style of the early 20th century.

Museo del Novecento (Twentieth Century Museum) houses Italy's largest collection of 20th-century art dominantly by Italian artists. Located in Palazzo dell'Arengario, the museum opened in December 2010 and has a rooftop restaurant and bar which overlook the Piazza del Duomo. Be sure to check out their bookstore!

We sat in a large loggia with stunning view of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and all the hive of activity at the Duomo di Milano. The waiter patiently waited for me to order dairy and gluten free - exquisite dishes that broke my original assumptions about what Italy fare could be! The portion sizes are small and absolutely delicious. The February weather in Milan is very mild - a pleasure to eat outdoors!

From the outdoor seating of Giacomo Arengario, you can see a the entire square which so happened to be buzzing with people gathering to enter Milan Fashion Week at the time we were there.

Construction of this Cathedral began in 1386 and was only officially completed after the last copper gate was installed in 1960. The architectural is very unique in which over the five centuries taken to complete it, its architectural style is touched by the  Gothic, Neoclassical and Gothic Revival architecture expressions.

The upper part is an Gothic minaret. Records state there are a total of 138 towers with the tallest spire being 108.5 meters high with a golden 4.2-meter statue of the Virgin Mary. The lower part is a typical of the Barocco style - full of sculptures from top to bottom.
