【Chapter 3】Something We Can't Change | Prada Fondazione

Content Editor: Alice On

We embrace the idea that culture is deeply useful and necessary as well as attractive and engaging. Culture should help us with our everyday lives, and understand how we, and the world, are changing. This assumption will be key for the Fondazione’s future activities

ATLAS

Permanent

In Torre’s towering six-level exhibition space, “Atlas” is unveiled, conceived from a dialogue between Miuccia Prada and Germano Celant.

It hosts works from the Prada Collection displayed in “a sequence of environments incorporating solos and confrontations” created through contrast or resonance between artists such as Mona Hatoum and Edward Kienholz and Nancy Reddin Kienholz, Carla Accardi and Jeff Koons, William N. Copley and Damien Hirst.

From 20 April 2018 Torre, the building marking the completion of Fondazione Prada’s Milan venue – first unveiled in May 2015 and designed by Rem Koolhaas with Chris van Duijn and Federico Pompignoli from architecture firm OMA – is open to the public. Inside the six exhibition levels of Torre, project “Atlas”, emerged from a dialogue between Miuccia Prada and Germano Celant, is unveiled. “Sanguine” curated by Luc Tuymans presented 80 works by 63 international artists all under the theme of a “personal interpretation of the Baroque based on innovative juxtapositions and unexpected associations”. A part of the obvious contrast was the work by contemporary artists and Old Masters.

Breaking from any chronological or thematic order, Tuymans invites viewers to reconsider 17th century art, as well as the contemporary research, by placing the role of artists at the center of the presented narrative.
