OEB Breakfast Co. Yaletown
Something relatively new to the Vancouver’s Yaletown brunch scene is OEB - Over Easy Breakfast. The gooey golden goodness in the name sake is not only the centrepiece of their most iconic dishes, it is also reflected throughout the modern retro interiors with mouth-watering yellow accents like the delightful broken egg-shell lights overhanging high top communal tables and smaller dining tables.
As an extension of the Calgary-based OEB Breakfast Co founded in 2009, the newcomer has already proven to be quite the belle of the ball - a weekend brunch may take up to 2 hours for entry at peak times, according to a few people we met in the line. Thankfully OEB Breakfast has a waitlist (not reservation) system via Yelp. Joining the digital waitlist ahead of time will enable guests to check the live wait time and cut down on actually standing outside like a chump.
A quick look over the OEB menu and its not hard to see what the draw is! Divided into Farm Fresh Classics, Blue Plate Specials, Breakfast Poutines, Benny’s, Omelettes, Sandwiches, Sweet and Sides, there is a focus on being chef-driven and the unconventional local ingredients used in dishes that simply can’t be made at home, balanced by vegan options and lighter fare. Some of their Signature items include Fresh Toast Trifle (Meyer lemon curd, market berries, Sicilian pistachio, torched French meringue), and Eggs & Caviar (farm fresh scrambled eggs, bourbon, sour cream, green onions, sevruga caviar, pumpernickel rye).
Working closely with farmers and producers in local areas, OEB seeks to create high-quality, responsibly sourced ingredients that go into their dishes. Here is a glance at the hometown heroes the Yaletown location is working with:
Fully-organic and Canadian bread from A Bread Affair (Langley, BC)
Pierogies from A Taste of Ukraine (Port Moody, BC)
Butery from Arctic Meats and Sausage (Port Coquitlam, BC), Drakes Meats (Lanigan, SK), Brome Lake Duck Farm (Knowlton, QC), and Albion Farms and Fisheries (BC)
Salmon from Wolveshead Smoked Salmon (NB)
Coffee from Caffe Umbria (Seattle, WA)
Herbs and produce from Barnston Island Herbs (Barnston Island, BC) and Ponderosa Mushrooms (Maple Ridge, BC)
