Hasselblad fans will know the name Maria Svarbova, the recipient of the 2018 Art Category Hasselblad Award. Select works from In the Swimming Pool , Plastic World and Human Space were exhibited for the first time in Asia at the Expo Park in Taipei, Taiwan on October 20, 2018.

Born Slovakia in 1988, Maria Svarbova originally pursued conservation-restoration and archaeology before dedicating herself to photography in 2010. I like to imagine this informs the way she reveals the mirroring details between the humans and their environment, just as how a future archaeologist might draw connections as to how we mold and are molded in return by our thriving technological world.
I love the interactive elements of her designs and the exhibition’s ability to emphasis on the relationship between people and space. Her products show a strong consideration for the layered experience and narrative transparencies and how viewers may move through 3-D architecture.
In 2016, Maria Svarbova created the stylized art for Daily the popular Hebe 田馥甄 album. Her unmistakable touch of surreal tranquility combined with stark geometry has brought her a growing fan base in Taiwan. The exhibition had an installation, almost identical to the scene featured on the Hebe 田馥甄 album, where guests could experience Svarbova’s aesthetics and composition first hand.
