The UK is internationally famous for its British style afternoon tea - A time-honoured tradition to sample classic local lifestyle!

Our afternoon tea was set closer to dinner, at 5:30pm, to maximize day time to explore the city of London.

November’s Dusk had already settled around 5pm so we actually missed the entrance tucked away in the ally, one left turn from “The Ritz”, several times!

Before entering the hotel, let me tell you about their dress code! Reflecting the elegant nature of The Ritz, there are requirements for different areas of the hotel. Smart Casual is suitable for the majority, however for afternoon tea in The Palm Court a jacket and tie are required for gentlemen and for the ladies, much easier, you just need a cute Ritz approved dress. Jeans and sportswear are forbidden for both men and women.

They also have sandwiches made with different types of toasts, meat and/or cheese. My best friend "baked scones with Cornish clotted cream and strawberry preserve” called to me like a beacon among a range of delicate pastries.Still quite jet-lagged around 7pm, we planned to go back to our hotel when finished our “dinner“ but we couldn’t help but stroll around again to behold the continuous feast for the eyes.

There’s something wonderful about taking time to dress up to enjoy English teas in the beautiful Palm Court.

Entering the hotel, guests are transported to an enchanting world framed by architecture designed in the Louis XVI style - perfect in appropriateness and elegant restraint.

Visitors can choose from an extensive selection of 18 varieties of loose-leaf tea from the “OMG there are oh so many teas I don't know” menu. Full disclosure, I don’t really remember what and how we ordered. At the time I chose gluten and dairy free items, restricted by my health. I remembered seeing lots of guests enjoying afternoon tea sets. For the prudent traveler, the 18 varieties of loose-leaf tea I mentioned can be seen on the website menu in advance.
